Critical Thought Tuesday
I was trying to argue the difference between religion and spirituality in one of my papers for my African American Religious Culture class and this was my professors response…
“I understand the word “spiritual” to be the “innocent” word that people like to use because they think it frees them from dealing from institutional religion.”
Interesting…What do you think the difference is? Is there a difference? Do you agree?
My strong interest in religion and philosophy especially the analysis of my own Christian belief system have led to the creation of this explorative blog. I do not support all ideas shared on websites linked to. Posts consist of thoughts, beliefs, rants, old journal entries. I have not been updating this blog regularly since 2012, I have become more "conservative" since and will be adding updates Please see my art website www.feliciafollum.com or my HindiForChristmas.blogspot.com blog
Gosh! Great question. I think I agree, for the most part, that spirituality is a word a lot of people use because they don't want to be associated with institutionalized religion. To me, it means something different, but I think much of society uses it the way your professor describes.
